What Avant-Score actually is
Avant-Score is a three-band risk rating attached to every background check result:
- ✓Low risk — findings corroborated across independent sources, with no conflicts.
- ✓Review — partial corroboration, or a minor mismatch worth a human read before acting on it.
- ✓High risk — conflicting evidence, tamper indicators, or a subject that couldn't be verified.
It sits on top of the underlying report, not in place of it. The report always states the evidence behind the score — which sources were checked, what matched, what didn't — so a Review or High-risk result is explainable, not just a number someone has to take on faith.
Why a pass/fail result isn't enough
A binary "verified" or "not verified" outcome hides exactly the information a decision-maker needs most: how confident is this result, and why? Two findings can both technically "pass" while carrying very different levels of certainty — one corroborated across three independent sources, the other resting on a single, unconfirmed data point. Avant-Score makes that difference visible instead of collapsing both into the same outcome.
How the score is set
The band reflects how well a finding corroborates across independent sources — identity data matched against issuing authorities, address findings supported by field evidence, employment history confirmed directly with named employers rather than inferred from a document. Where sources agree cleanly, a result lands Low risk. Where evidence is incomplete, inconsistent, or couldn't be independently confirmed, it moves to Review or High risk, and the report says specifically why.
Where you'll see it
Avant-Score appears on every check result across the platform — in your dashboard when reviewing an individual report, in bulk results when screening at volume, and in the structured JSON returned by the Verification API for teams building checks into their own product. The same score, the same underlying evidence, wherever the result reaches you.
Why it matters for high-volume decisions
For teams screening at scale — logistics hiring, bank staff, insurance agents and claims staff — Avant-Score is a triage tool as much as a risk indicator. Low-risk results can move straight through to onboarding. Review and High-risk results get routed to a human before a decision is made. Nobody has to read every report line by line just to find the ones that need attention.
What Avant-Score doesn't do
Bands are indicative, not a final verdict. A Review or High-risk result isn't an automatic rejection — it's a signal to look closer, and the report gives you what you need to do that. The decision on what to do with a result always stays with the organisation running the check, not with the score itself.
